SUMMARY:REPS Presents: Dr. Lona Bailey - Untold Hollywood Stories
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our April REPS program: \n \nREPS Presents: Dr. Lona Bailey – Untold Hollywood Stories – Life and Times of Virginia Gregg \nLIVE VIA ZOOM – LINK BELOW! \nWednesday\, April 19th  \n7:00 PM PST \nJoin us as we hear Dr. Lona Bailey discuss her research and her passion to share the untold stories of women such as Virginia Gregg.  This is a great chance to hear an expert share about these special secrets and stories of Hollywood’s Golden Age and acknowledge the lives of women in entertainment. \nDr. Lona Bailey is a Golden Age of Hollywood researcher and writer of Uncredited: The Life and Career of Actress Virginia Gregg (available for purchase) and Voice of Villainy: The Betty Lou Gerson Story. As a PhD and former therapist\, Lona is passionate about telling the untold stories of women who perhaps weren’t finished using their own voices during their earthly journeys. Lona offers a balanced perspective on the multidimensional elements involved in legacy-maintenance with particular interest in the preservation efforts of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Lona’s biographic works are delicately researched and written with a candid and fair pen and plenty of room for levity. Old Hollywood holds millions of secrets in its gothic sensationalism; with its dark secrets\, come just as many shimmering triumphs– and Old Hollywood wouldn’t be as we know it without both. Lona has been featured in Market Watch\, Digital Journal\, and Good News Magazine. \nProgram hosted by Walden Hughes \nZoom hosting by Lindsey Dabek \nWhen: Apr 19\, 2023 07:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)\nTopic: REPS Presents – Dr. Lona Bailey – Untold Hollywood Stories \nPlease click the link below to join the webinar:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86557057093?pwd=YzF3K1ZLK1BQcjErd1VaaWZUNFNLZz09\nPasscode: 490924 \nOr One tap mobile :\n+12532158782\,\,86557057093#\,\,\,\,*490924# US (Tacoma)\n+12532050468\,\,86557057093#\,\,\,\,*490924# US\nOr Telephone:\nDial(for higher quality\, dial a number based on your current location):\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 253 205 0468 US\n+1 719 359 4580 US\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 669 444 9171 US\n+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n+1 689 278 1000 US\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 305 224 1968 US\n+1 309 205 3325 US\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 360 209 5623 US\n+1 386 347 5053 US\n+1 507 473 4847 US\n+1 564 217 2000 US\n+1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n+1 646 931 3860 US \nWebinar ID: 865 5705 7093\nPasscode: 490924\nInternational numbers available: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kcXDyQBhkx \n  \n

SUMMARY:REPS Presents: Truth or Consequences - A Presentation by Martin Grams
DESCRIPTION:REPS Presents: TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES with Martin Grams!! \nWednesday\, February 22nd\n7:00 PM PST\nLIVE via ZOOM – LINK BELOW!! \nWhen Truth or Consequences first premiered on radio in 1941\, no one could have predicted what the program would have accomplished. By 1945 the radio audience was invited to participate in write-in contests to identify mystery celebrities and donations that accompanied the write-ins helped establish numerous charities including the formation of the American Heart Association. \nIn 1950\, the radio program helped convince the town of Hot Springs\, New Mexico\, to change their name to Truth or Consequences\, New Mexico. The program would launch Bob Barker’s career and ultimately establish the Jimmy Fund. This 40 minutes slideshow presentation will document the entire history\, using archival photos from various archives across the country\, some that have never been published before. \nMartin Grams\, Jr. is an American pop culture historian who has written extensively on radio\, television and films. Under the guidelines of his profession Grams provided audio commentary for commercial releases of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs\, written hundreds of magazine articles for scholarly journals\, provided commentary for filmed documentaries and delivers lectures at various institutions including ARSC\, SPERDVAC\, REPS and the Library of Congress. SUMMARY:REPS SHOWCASE - OCTOBER 20th-23rd 2022
DESCRIPTION:REPS is celebrating 30 YEARS this year\, and we’re excited to bring back our REPS SHOWCASE in 2022!! VIEW 2022 SCHEDULE HERE!!!  CELEBRATING RADIO’S GOLDEN AGE During the Golden Age of Radio\, listeners were entertained by legendary radio comedians\, spine tingling thrillers\, mysteries and adventures! The Hollywood motion picture stars made guest appearances on top weekly radio programs often to re-create their popular movie for the American radio listener. Radio was hot and millions of listeners tuned in daily to their favorite programs. Radio presented fascinating audio stories by appealing to the listener’s imagination. Entire sound effects departments were developed by radio broadcasters. These sound effects men and women were then tasked to create the sounds of footsteps\, horse’s hooves\, doors being slammed\, rain\, thunder\, car engines\, dogs barking\, babies crying\, fire cackling\, running water\, gun shots or whatever the situation required. For one grand weekend this October\, we will roll out the red carpet to welcome the Stars and to bring back the sound effects artists to pay homage to the fondly remembered Golden Age of Radio. Join us!   SPECIAL GUESTS FOR THIS YEAR INCLUDE: \nMargaret O’Brien from Lux Radio Theater \nBeverly Washburn\, from The Jack Benny Radio Show\, \nTommy Cook from Red Ryder \nStuffy Singer from Great Gildersleeve \nAnne Whitfield from Phil Harris and Alice Faye \nIvan Cury from Bobby Benson \nLynda Day George from Mission Impossible \nSharon Baird from The Mickey Mouse Club \nLarry Albert from Harry Nile \nLocal talent from our REPS Players \n….PLUS MANY MORE!!   More details to come soon!! \nMORE INFO  \nWhen: Thursday\, October 20th through Sunday\, October 23rd 2022 \nGroup Booking Link for Hotel 116 HERE Where: Hotel 116\, 625 116th Ave NE Bellevue\, WA 98004 425.455.9444

SUMMARY:REPS Presents: The Green Hornet - A Presentation by Martin Grams
DESCRIPTION:REPS is proud to welcome back MARTIN GRAMS!!\n\n\nREPS PRESENTS: THE GREEN HORNET – A Presentation by Martin Grams\nWednesday\, May 11th \n7:00 PST\n\nFREE WITH REGISTRATION – SEE BELOW!\n\nThe Green Hornet was one of radio’s best-known and most distinctive adventure programs. Britt Reid\, publisher of The Daily Sentinel\, was in the position to learn facts about criminals that only the police had access. Armed with this knowledge\, a gas gun that rendered foes momentarily unconscious\, and a black speedster known as The Black Beauty\, he donned the guise of The Green Hornet. Feared by the underworld and sought after by the police\, the masked vigilante fought racketeers\, gangsters and saboteurs. When the police were faced with red tape\, The Green Hornet\, with his sidekick Kato\, his faithful valet\, circumvented protocol and legal procedure in their determined battle to put away crooks. \n\n\nSince The Green Hornet first appeared on radio in 1936\, the fictional character has made the transition to motion pictures\, comics and television. Very little has been written about the masked vigilante and what has been recorded in magazine articles and encyclopedias prior to this publication has never explored the character as deeply… or accurately… than the book co-written by radio historians Martin Grams and Terry Salomonson. \nFrom there two decades of research\, digging through archives and tracking down family relatives of the actors and writers involved with the radio program\, this slide show presentation will include archival scans and photographs never seen in decades. \n\nBuy Martin’s BOOK HERE! \n \nMartin Grams\, Jr. is an American pop culture historian who has written extensively on radio\, television and films. SUMMARY:REPS Presents: The Lone Ranger - A Presentation by Martin Grams
DESCRIPTION:Join us LIVE via Zoom for this exciting presentation from American Pop Culture Historian\, Martin Grams: \nWhen THE LONE RANGER premiered on the evening of January 31\, 1933\, no one involved with the creation of the program suspected that “Hi-Yo\, Silver!” would become an expression that would enter America’s lexicon. For more than two decades\, radio listeners were treated to the adventure of the “masked rider of the plains\,” who rode a fiery horse across the length of seven western states in pursuit of lawbreakers. With the assistance of Tonto\, his faithful Indian companion\, The Lone Ranger exchanged fisticuffs with outlaws who preyed upon the meek. Through these broadcasts The Lone Ranger quickly became mythic to juvenile listeners who faithfully tuned in to the radio program three nights a week.  \nRegrettably\, it was not until 1938 that the radio broadcasts were recorded on a regular basis\, which means the first five years of radio broadcasts are not known to exist in recorded form. Consequently\, very little has been documented about those first five years\, herein referred to as “The Early Years.” Historian Martin Grams\, who recently co-authored an 800-page book on the subject\, will present us with the true facts behind the origin of THE LONE RANGER program\, verifying the character was not created overnight but rather developed over a period of time. Archival materials will be presented along with a few surprises.
