REPS Writing Contest Announcement

Hello Radio Enthusiasts! We have something new and exciting to announce. REPS is holding a script writing contest. That’s right! We know there are some very talented writers out there and we’d like to give YOU a chance to strut your stuff. You don’t have to be a member of REPS to enter the contest, anyone, anywhere, any age can join.

Here’s how:

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL TEMPLATE

  • We’d like all submissions to follow this audio script standard. Clearly mark which characters are speaking and sound effects used. Instead of Actor Name you can indicate gender, age or characteristics so we have an idea who to cast (Adult Male, Cranky or Female, 20s, Shy or Teenage Boy).
  • The first page of your submission should contain just your name, the title of your script and your contact information. DO NOT put your name on your script. Your script will be assigned a number when being reviewed by the judging panel to limit personal bias.
  • Submissions should be at least 5 minutes and no more than 15 minutes long. Remember, 1 page equals roughly 1 minute of speaking. If we have an enthusiastic turnout for this contest we will consider longer sketches next year.
  • Try to keep your cast to around 6 actors or less. We’re going to assemble a crack team of our best performers to read the top three finalists scripts so there is no bias when it comes to performing. The final three scripts will be voted on my REPS members based on being the most entertaining script. Not who gave the best performance.
  • You may invent brand new characters or invent new situations for old favorites. Match up characters from completely different shows! It can be a drama, a comedy, a mystery or any genre you can imagine. Modern or period piece, it’s your choice. If we get a huge number of submissions we may separate them into different categories to make the judging fair.
  • Submission deadline for all scripts is November 30th  2015- 10PM PST. No exceptions. Email your final draft in .pdf format to our REPS president, Jenn Ollivier at theredheaddiva@gmail.com. Subject: REPS WRITING CONTEST. Include your name, contact information and script title in the body of the email.
  • Board members will read all of the scripts and pick the top 3 by the January 2016 meeting. Finalists will be notified by email as well. Those 3 scripts will be performed at the February meeting and voted on that day by REPS club members in attendance. All performances will be recorded and put on our website for the world to enjoy.
  • Doesn’t matter if you don’t live in the Seattle region. Out of area contributions are very welcome. You do not have to be present at the meetings to win.
  • By the fact of entering, entrants attest that the work submitted is their own original composition, that they own the copyright, and that the work has not at time of entering been published or performed elsewhere. Entrants will retain the copyright to their own submitted work and are free to submit it at any time for publication elsewhere, or for entry in other competitions.

  • Of course there are prizes!!!
    • THIRD PLACE: $10 Starbucks gift card
    • SECOND PLACE: $25 Barnes and Noble gift card
    • FIRST PLACE: $50 Amazon gift card AND a chance for your script to be performed at the 2016 REPS Showcase in Bellevue!

2015 REPS Showcase Old Time Radio Convention

2015 REPS SHOWCASE April 17-19 – Bellevue Coast Hotel

The REPS Showcase really is a special event. Whether it’s meeting the people who appeared in many of our favorite radio shows of yesterday or getting together with other fans, it’s always a great time to be had.
Enjoy the many performances that are staged at each convention. Performers love coming to REPS and the creative freedom they have in producing truly fun shows. In the last couple of years Chuck McCann has played Phil Harris in a recreation of the Phil Harris and Alice Faye show as well as performing as Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy in a Chase and Sanborn Hour reenactment. Tommy Cook thrilled us in the title role in 2011 when he performed in a terrifying tale from Lights Out. We have produced thrillers from Suspense, a full production of The Wizard of Oz from The Lux Radio Theater, The Great Gildersleeve (with Shirley Mitchell reprising her original role of Leila Ransom)and many more. The list of shows that have entertained the Showcase crowd the last few years has been too numerous to all list here.

We certainly have had a fun time and fans travel from around the country to join the merriment.

Gregg Oppenheimer,Michael Kacey and Tim Knofler have each made the trip up from California to produce and direct shows for the REPS SHOWCASE each year. They have been telling others around the country what a great time they have and they encourage other fans to head on out to the SHOWCASE! Among those fans are Edward Blanchard from New Hampshire, Joel Klein from New York, quite a few folks from California and more.

REPS is about celebrating those days of Old Time Radio and encouraging the art of modern audio theater. That’s our niche – the REPS identity and who we are. With this specific focus we don’t have the thousands of people who come crashing through the gate to attend the convention as if REPS were Comic Con or Monster Bash. However, as a smaller event, fans have the experience and pleasure to enjoy a more intimate experience and a better opportunity to mingle with the special guests! We hope you can join us for the

2015 REPS SHOWCASE April 17-19 – Bellevue Coast Hotel.
